From Dropping Out to Standing Out

I wasn’t born extraordinary.
In fact, until 7th grade—I was a below-average student.
I dropped out of school.

My future?

It felt like a dead-end.

Somehow, I scraped through my 10th board exams through correspondence.
My score? Less than 44%.
Not 60. Not even close.

When I share this, people often say,
“Bijay, you’re from IIT—this must be a motivational story you’re making up.”

So just to be clear—
Yes, I’m an IITian today.
But I also have the 10th board certificate to prove that I started from the bottom—literally.

My transformation didn’t start with talent.
It started with belief, guidance, and relentless effort.

And if I can rewrite my story from there,
So can you.

But one encounter changed everything.

That’s when I met a passionate math teacher who saw something in me that I couldn’t.
He sparked a dream—to crack IIT.

I didn’t make it right away, but I landed in one of the top 3 colleges in Odisha.

Lesson one?

When you aim for great things, you at least end up with good ones. And the right teacher can change your trajectory.

After completing my Electrical Engineering, the job market was down.

But my hunger wasn’t.

I gave the IIT entrance another shot—twice—and failed.

Then I did something that changed everything.

I hired a coach.
He helped me face my fear.
And I made it.

I secured All India Rank 50—a top global position.
IIT Madras—Class of 2006.

Lesson 2:

Hard work is essential—but it’s not enough.
You need a mentor. You need a coach.
Yes, it costs money.
But the cost of staying stuck, repeating mistakes, or falling short of your potential?
That’s far more expensive.
The right coach doesn’t cost you.

After doing my post-graduation from IIT, everything seemed to fall into place.
I had a great job. I got married. Life was moving forward.

I was working in Qualcomm—an incredible organization with brilliant minds and cutting-edge work.

From the outside, it looked perfect.
I had the degree, the job, the title… everything I had worked so hard for.

But on the inside, a quiet conflict was brewing.

I was performing well. But I wasn’t fulfilled.
There was no spark. No deeper meaning.

And that’s when I hit my second turning point:
I chose to invest in coaching—again.

This time, I found my mentor in John Maxwell, one of the world’s most respected leadership coaches.

That decision changed everything.
